The first of several games using Ken Silverman's versatile engine, Duke Nukem 3D gets a lot right and has just the right "feel", especially in the introductory shareware episode. It uses the "Build" engine, which is still similar to the old Wolf3D engine in that there are no rooms on top of other rooms, but the Build engine includes many new features, like walls of different heights and angles, lighting effects, and a versatile scripting system.
